A Bath Is Not A Bath Without Your Rubber Duck

Image
Everyone, at some point in their lives, has had a bath with a rubber duck. A rubber duck in the bath can make washing, for a child, so much more fun. Here at Toyday you can pick up big ducks, small ducks, ducks with personalities or even a duck that you can blow bubbles with.   Our ducks that have their own personalities are perfect as gifts for your son or daughter. We have Count Dracula ducks and Darling ducks. Here in Looe we even have a annual duck race. The 2012 Great Looe River Duck Race took place on 2nd September 2012 and 5,000 plastic ducks took part. They had to float down the river from Looe Bridge to the Lower Ferry Steps. The ticket holders for the first 4 ducks to complete the course win a cash prize ranging from £1,000 to £50.  Some people have even set out to create the largest rubber duck in the world. The current world record for the largest duck was created by a Dutch artist in 2007. His duck measures at 16.5 x 20 x 32 meters and...

Racing Ducks in Szentendre

Image
Last year we supplied hundreds of ducks for different events including festivals and charity events. On 27th August 2011 in the sunny town of Szentendre, Hungary there was a market and festival being held, where the duck race of the year was to take place! We supplied 600 Medium Rubber Ducks and 4 Giant Ducks for this event and what a turnout there was. People of all ages took part and were all assigned a rubber duck with it's own number on the bottom. Lots of money was raised for charity and is to be put towards a bench for the tired tourists to sit down and have a break on after exploring the beautiful sights of the town. Take a look at the footage below to see the ducks being raced! Looks like everyone's having a great time! If you would like us to supply you with Rubber Ducks for any event please contact us on 01803 840303 or email customerservice@toyday.co.uk

Racing Rubber Ducks

Image
With one of Toyday shops based in Looe we are no stranger to Rubber Duck races as each summer The Lions Club of Looe holds its own annual rubber duck race when around 5000 rubber ducks are dropped from the Bridge into the harbour amid huge cheers as the tide is going out. Through the summer people 'purchase' a numbered duck and on the day of the race the harbour is packed with every one hoping the duck they sponsored is the first past the finishing post although as with any race there is a lot of jostling, the ducks that is, as they float down the harbour. It is a hugely enjoyable event and raises an amazing amount of money for charity and we are finding that this kind of event is becoming more and more popular and we are getting requests if we can supply large quantities of rubber ducks which of course we can. One criteria for a successful duck race as you can imagine is the fact that the ducks are suitable and although they all float in a bath its when they are dropped...

Looe and Shark Fishing

Image
Just around the corner from Toyday in Looe is the headquarters of the Shark Angling Club of Great Britain which I walk past every day on my way to and from work. Outside against their wall they keep a blackboard with an up to date count of the sharks that have been caught from Looe so far this season and it stands at 297. Nowadays with conservation in mind the sharks are caught, their measurements are taken and weight estimated and then released back into the sea. This is so different to when I was a young boy and growing up in Looe. Each morning men, and women who I thought were really brave would climb into the fishing boats and leave the harbour and steam for a couple hours out to sea stopping to catch some fresh mackerel for bait on the way. The boats would fly the red SACGB flag to show they were off shark fishing for the day. Me and my friend Bob, both of us aged about ten, would stand on the Banjo Pier in the evening to watch them come back in and for each blu...

Duck Racing - Which rubber ducks are best?

Image
Everyone loves a rubber duck race, and duck racing can be a great fund raising event. One of the most common questions we are asked at Toyday, is "what ducks are best for duck racing?". This depends largely on budget, and for many annual duck racing events, the event managers will have invested in special racing rubber ducks, which are weighted so that they float upright. We do supply these ducks designed especially for duck racing, (priced £3 - £10) although these can often be price prohibitive for 1 off duck racing events. The biggest challenge with racing ducks, is the ability for them to stay upright whilst racing, and many duck races have ducks floating down the rivers on their sides or upside down. Having said that, we have supplied many companies with rubber ducks for duck racing. Here's a list of the most popular: - Classic Small Bath Duck 4.5cm. Most likely to turn over but lowest price. This is our most popular duck purchased for 1 - time duck races. L...
