Shopping local!

More and more people are starting to shop online. Now you can order everything from your weekly shop to brand new technology online. But is it really a better way?

By not going into store you miss out on a whole experience, your shopping with just once sense. Your sight. You cant touch the product, or see a demonstration of it.
For example you don't know how soft a cuddly toy is buy looking at it, or what a wind up musical toy sounds like.

Here at Toyday the atmosphere in our shops is magical! Almost every inch of the shop has exciting toys and games for you to look at. It actually reminds me of the film, Mr magorium's wonder emporium. A lot of toys have demo's out in the shop so that you can even play with them before you buy, just to make sure your buying whats right for you.

Shopping online also means you won't get that face to face customer service and friendly smiles!
So come down to Toyday Toyshop in Looe, and support your town and its local business's.

Pretty Pixie Playset.

Here at Toyday we have a big range of traditional and wooden toys, and now to add to our ever growing list is the wooden Pixie play set. This beautiful wooden toadstool cottage comes with six pieces of furniture, two wooden pixies with felt clothing, a green felt leaf and pink felt flower which i would use as a rug, a table and two chairs and a table lamppost. It has a little piece of red elastic string that loops round a wooden ball to keep the cottage closed and the pieces inside altogether. There's even a carry handle.

The two pixies, both made of wood, have little felt outfits on, as well as felt flowers on their heads and the most adorable little painted on faces.

The cottage opens up so that you can play in the Pixies house with them.

Personally I love this new toy It's very cute and very girly, perfect for your little pixie princess!

Drawing with Spirograph!

Developed by British engineer Denys Fisher and first sold in 1965, Spirograph is a geometric drawing toy that produces mathematical roulette curves. Creating amazing designs and shapes for children to colour in. I had my first Spirograph at the age of about 11 and I used to spend hours making different drawings.

This is the Spirograph released in 1965.

Here are a few examples of pictures that you could make with Spirograph.

Great garden fun!

Now that the weathers getting warmer I want to get my little girl outside more, but having a newborn baby sometimes makes long day trips out a little difficult especially when it comes to keeping them cool and in the shade. So until my little baby is a little bit older I've decided that im going to buy some more toys and games for Elisia to play in the garden with.

So here are a few of my top choices that we have in store!

The Dinosaur bubble blower. I'm forever being asked to blow the bubbles so that Elisia can run around the garden and chase them. This way she can make the bubbles herself if im busy with the little one, providing hours of bubble fun!

Gardening tools perfect for those little hands! Now I have help doing the gardening which is great for spending some one on one time with my 2 year old. She loves playing in the mud and getting dirty.

There's nothing better than cooling down in the heat with a good old water fight! Chasing each other round and around with a water pistol. Brilliant for tiring out toddlers full of energy.

Another great toy for water play, these plastic watering cans come in four different colours. A good toy to get your toddler involved with the gardening.

This toy wheel barrow is perfect for your little one to cart around all their prized possessions, or even just mud! My little girl likes to push her Teddy's around indoors in her shopping cart so I know she would love this!

For children a little bit older we have the Rock N Hopper

And skip ball! A great twist to from the original skipping rope!

Use It or Lose It!

We need to support our high streets. 12,000 shops could close this year, that's 2000 more than last year!

With more people than ever shopping online there are fewer shoppers on the high street, despite this, rents and rates have continued to rise. Who can blame people for staying in and shopping on the web when to go to the shops costs so much in fuel and parking.

Shopping in a physical store is brilliant though, what you see is what you get. You can see and touch the actual product your buying and be confident in its quality before you buy. Retailers are also great at inspiring you with shop and window displays. When it comes to buying a gift for someone there is nothing like your local independent for offering advice and ideas.

I think we focus to much on where offers the best price instead of who we want to buy from. I have shops locally that I love and I'm going to make sure that's where I spend my money because I'd hate to lose them. Not only that but I don't want to be buying the same mass produced stuff that everyone has, I want something a bit unique.

I could ramble on because it's something I feel passionately about but the message here is simple - shop local!!

Toys for my baby boy!

Although the new little man in my life is not even a month old yet I'm already looking at toys, books and puzzles etc. that i can buy for him. Lucky for me I work in a place that's great for all things fun, Toyday Toyshop in Looe!

I have been looking at this product since finding out I was having a little boy! I love peter rabbit and remember reading the stories myself as a child. Its so soft and cuddly and plays a beautiful lullaby. This will take pride of place hanging on his cot.

Remember The very Hungry Caterpillar? One of my favorite childhood books. Turning all the little flaps and watching him turn into a beautiful butterfly was brilliant. So unsurprisingly I've fallen in love with the Very Hungry Caterpillar wooden pull along toy.

I'm Looking forward to the day my little guy can follow his daddy round this house and copy him wearing his carpenters belt! We all know kids love to copy their parents, my little girl try to help my clean and tidy up but usually ends up making more mess!

These are but a few off the toys and various other items that I'll be buying for my little boy, I couldn't possibly name the rest as it would be a never ending blog! All these toys and more can be found in-store and online. Just follow the link.

Crazy Things People Have Asked For

Over the years people have come into our toy shops and asked us for some very strange things. Sometimes the items requested aren't necessarily strange but to expect a toy shop to stock them is. Here is my top 10 craziest things people have asked us for:

1. Jellied Eels
2. Lighters - I was asked for this so frequently when the newsagent next door was closed that I actually started stocking them!
3. Cat Nip
4. Phone Credit
5. Tarot cards
6. Wood Glue

7. Super Market Trolley Coin
8. Cheese
9. Hair Brush
10.Tea Towels

We had a customer who made us laugh when he asked for a toy chainsaw, not that a toy chainsaw is particularly funny but when I said I didn't have any he replied "Why you've got other weapons like swords and guns". Sorry if I'm wrong but I thought the primary use for a chainsaw was as a tool rather than a weapon!

I'm afraid we only sell toys, lots and lots of very lovely toys!
